ABD Temel Bilimler Enstitüsü'nden (IBS) Dr. Park Joo-min liderliğindeki bir araştırmacı ekibi, nörolojik bozuklukların tedavisinde devrim yaratabilecek, öncü, cerrahi olmayan bir beyin tekniğini ortaya çıkardı.
Science Advanced dergisinde yayınlanan araştırma, düşük yoğunluklu, düşük frekanslı ultrasonu (LILFUS) beyin fonksiyonlarında uzun vadeli değişikliklere neden olabilecek yeni bir yöntem olarak sunuyor.
Geleneksel olarak, manyetik ve elektriksel beyin stimülasyon yöntemleri doğruluk ve penetrasyon derinliği açısından sınırlamalarla karşı karşıya kalırken, düşük yoğunluklu, düşük frekanslı ultrason (LILFUS), beyin dokusuna olağanüstü bir hassasiyetle nüfuz edebilme özelliği ile umut verici bir alternatif sunuyor.
Çalışma, düşük yoğunluklu, düşük frekanslı ultrasonun, spesifik moleküler yolları, özellikle de astrositlerdeki mekanik olarak hassas kalsiyum kanallarını aktive ederek nöroplastisiteyi, yani beynin kendini yeniden yapılandırma yeteneğini modüle edebildiğini gösteriyor.
Düşük yoğunluklu, düşük frekanslı ultrason, öğrenme ve hafıza süreçleriyle ilişkili beyin dalgası modellerini taklit ederek beyin bölgelerini seçici olarak etkinleştirebilir veya devre dışı bırakabilir ve beyin fonksiyonu üzerinde kalıcı etkilere yol açabilir.
Düşük yoğunluklu, düşük frekanslı ultrasonun farelerde uygulanması, motor beceri öğreniminde önemli gelişmelere neden oldu. Bu durum, felç geçirenler ve motor bozukluğu olan bireyler için rehabilitasyon tedavilerinde potansiyel uygulamalara işaret ediyor. Teknoloji, sadece motor fonksiyonları değil, aynı zamanda depresyon gibi durumların tedavisi ve bilişsel fonksiyonların geliştirilmesi açısından da umut vaat ediyor.

Dr. Park Joo-min ve ekibi, düşük yoğunluklu ve düşük frekanslı ultrasonun beyin bozukluklarının tedavisi ve bilişsel işlevlerin geliştirilmesindeki potansiyelini daha fazla araştırmayı planlıyor. Bu çalışma, dünya genelinde milyonlarca kişiyi etkileyen nörolojik rahatsızlıklara umut olabilir.
